Moccasins By Internet
Parent Company Seguin's House of Cheese
The Early Years
Seguin's Cheese & Gifts was established in 1967 by Russell Seguin Sr. and his wife Viola, Russell Seguin Jr. and his wife Patricia and Ronald Seguin and his wife Diana.
The property on which Moccasins By Internet, Seguin's Retail Gift Shop, Warehousing, offices and shipping department exists, was purchased in early 1966 from a local physician, Dr John Bell from Marinette, Wisconsin and an Insurance agent, Clifford Brabender from the city of Peshtigo, Wisconsin.
It consisted of 12 acres of swamp and woods with 670 feet of Frontage on US Hwy 41. Hwy 41 then and still remains a main thoroughfare used by Indiana, Illinois and Southern Wisconsin Tourists on their journey to and from the upper pennisula of Michigan and Canada.
The Land was purchased at that time for the then Pricey sum of $3500. It was cleared by hand by the 3 Seguins, A few friends, a single chainsaw, bow saw, a 1960 Red Willys Jeep and a lot of insect spray! It was excavated by the cousin of Russ, Russ Jr and Ron. Barney Seguin.
Seguins enter The Moccasin business
Seguin's have sold Moccasins about as long as the gift shop has been in business. Starting with Lake Church Brand moccasins crafted in Lake Church, Wisconsin and Midwestern Sport Tog Deerskin Moccasins, made in Berlin, Wisconsin.
Lake Church was eventually bought out by Minnetonka Moccasin company and Minnetonka Moccasins soon became one of our most popular selling products. From the out set moccasins were sold not only in the gift shop but through our mail order catalog and over the phone.
Ron, the owner was first introduced to the comfort of moccasins over 50 years ago when he bought a pair of Mocs from the local Montgomery Wards store to wear to "Bear Paw" Boy Scout camp. Located in northwoods of Wisconsin.
The mocs Ron wore were just about identical to the the Camp Moc, Minnetonka Moccasin Company offers today.
In addition to Minnetonka Moccasins, Old Friends Slippers offered by Old Friends Footwear and Minnetonka Sandals have been added to our footwear selection.
In the late 1990's the Seguin's started selling Moccasins over the Internet under the website name Minnetonka-By-Internet later to be named Moccasins-By-Internet.
In June of 2004, Moccasins-By-Internet at that time still known as Minnetonka-By-Internet and our retail gift shop were recognized by a National Magazine as one of Minnetonka Moccasin companies top retailers.
In January of 2005, Ron as owner of Moccasins-by-internet was interviewed and appeared in papers nationwide concerning the renewed popularity of Minnetonka Moccasins and the success Moccasins-by-internet were having by selling moccasins and fringe boots over the internet.
Words from the Boss
Hi, I'm Ron Seguin, owner and creator of Moccasins-by-Internet. I am a retailer at heart, not an internet guru or techi.
My wife Diana and I started selling Minnetonka Moccasins in one of our family owned businesses back in the early 1970's, a retail Wisconsin Cheese Store and Gift Shop.
We were both born, raised, and still live in Marinette, Wisconsin. Marinette is located about 50 miles north of Green Bay (Go Pack Go!) on the Wisconsin and Michigan border.
I've worked in the family businesses since I was 14. I am now 64. Gosh, that's a lot of years. Diana and I both still work in all facets of the business, in our busy seasons up to 70 hours a week.
For over 25 years, I worked side by side with, a very wise man, my father, the late Russell Joseph Seguin. During those years he taught me many things a few of which I would like to include below.
Quality products, great prices, fast delivery, helpful customer service, and a 90 day return policy. These are the benchmarks we strive for every day in our goal to build lasting relationships
We are not a Huge conglomerate or a business without a face. We are a small group of caring individuals consisting of husbands and wives, single mothers, grandmothers, and students - people working hard to make a living just like you. We are thrilled when we succeed, cry when were sad and feel bad when we make a mistake., but that is all part of a job we all enjoy doing!
We strive to treat you exactly the way we would like to be treated, fair and honest.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our site and read our story. We hope we can serve you soon and if your ever have the opportunity to pass through our part of Wisconsin please stop by. You'll always be greeted with a warm "Hello" when you step inside our door.
